Learning to paddle
The club has a long tradition of introducing newcomers to paddling. Unfortunately we are currently struggling to run many sessions for novices due to a shortage of qualified coaches. In addition, we are not currently taking new junior members (that’s age 17 or under), as our coaching groups are full.
We may be able to take some new members later this year. If you would be interested in going onto a waiting list, please get in touch via the contact form.
We don’t usually recommend teaching for children under the age of 10. Equipment is not suitably sized for smaller children, and our pool sessions often do not finish until 10pm.
Some level of fitness is needed. Learning to paddle does involve lots of capsizing and swimming, so it can be strenuous. One of the basic skills is the ability to get back into a kayak, from the water, after a capsize, and this requires some degree of agility. A willingness to get wet is essential. Please discuss it with us if in doubt.
